LANDMARKS TO VISIT IN CANADA

In a recent poll on our Facebook page, we asked which landmarks in Canada you would most like to visit and explore. We have calculated the results and the CN Tower took top honours followed by the beautiful Niagara Falls.

We explored your favourite landmarks and here are the top reasons to visit.

CN Tower – Toronto

The CN Tower, which is one of the world’s largest free-standing structures, sits at 533.33 metres high in downtown Toronto. Take a 58 second glass fronted elevator ride to the top where you can take in magnificent views of up to 160km away from four observation areas such as the Sky Terrace and the SkyPod. The tower also hosts 3 restaurants, a state of the art theatre and the KidZone play area. The CN Tower is one of Canada’s and the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Visited by more than 1.5 million people each year, it comes to no surprise why it was voted the number one landmark to visit in Canada.

Niagara Falls – Ontario

The landmark has 3 waterfalls including the Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls which separate the two countries. Over the years, Niagara Falls has become the ultimate tourist destination, offering fun activities for the whole family. Explore the Clifton Hill Skywall, a 53m Ferris wheel which provides unique and breath-taking views. The Niagara Falls are appreciated both for their beauty and valuable source of hydroelectric power in Canada.

Banff National Park – Alberta

The park runs for 6641 km and consists of mountainous terrain, ice fields and alpine landscapes. Each year, millions of visitors come to Banff National Park to explore the waters of Lake Louise and drive beneath the towering jagged peaks that line the Icefields parkway. Banff National Park is one of the world’s premier destination spots.

 

 

Rideau Canal – Ottawa

rideau-canal-322821_960_720A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal in Ottawa sees visitors each winter coming out for the world’s largest skating rink of 7.8km. Rideau Canal connects the city of Ottawa, Ontario on the Ottawa River. The Rideau is maintained and operated by Parks Canada to preserve and present the canals natural and historic features as well as to provide a navigable channel for boaters. The deepest part of the Rideau is in Big Rideau Lake which reaches a depth of 100.3 metres.

 

Canadian Rockies – B.C.

Five national parks are located within the Canadian Rockies with the highest mountain, Mount Robson peaking at 3.954 metres. Enjoy various activities such as rock climbing, ice climbing and skiing in a region filled with wilderness, alpine lakes and many outdoor recreation sites.
