JANUARY 11 EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW ISSUES OVER 3,000 INVITATIONS

In a draw that took place on January 11, 2017 the Express Entry system through the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 3,334 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). This is the first time that the number of ITAs has exceeded 3,000 and the candidates with 459 or more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) were invited to apply. This represents the first time in over 12 months that the number of CRS points has dropped below 460.

Throughout 2016 and the beginning of 2017, the IRCC has continuously stated that they will seek ways to increase the number of ITAs issued as the Canadian government acknowledges that the Express Entry system is the main driver of economic immigration to Canada.

For the January 11 draw, candidates who received an ITA will now be able to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the IRCC. They will also be able to include their family members, common-law partners, and spouses including any dependent children to come along with them to Canada.

Individuals who wish to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC), or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) are first required to enter the Express Entry pool. Upon entering the pool, they are assigned a CRS score based on factors that include civil status information, education, language ability, work experience, and other criteria. Candidates are ranked in the pool according to their CRS score and the IRCC periodically conducts draws to invite the highest ranking to submit an application.
