LATEST MANITOBA PNP DRAW INVITES 324 SKILLED WORKERS
Canada continues to set the benchmark in the immigration circles and the latest Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a great example. In the latest draw for skilled workers which took place on February 27, a total of 324 skilled workers who had made an Expression of Interest (EOI) in settling in Manitoba were issued with a Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA), also known as an invitation.
Candidates who were eligible for one of the MPNP for Skilled Workers sub-categories are ranked according to a unique points system that awards up to 1,000 points to each candidate.
Of the total invited candidates, 200 were issued with a LAA under the criteria for the Skilled Workers in Manitoba sub-category. The remaining 124 LAAs were issued to candidates in the Skilled Workers Overseas sub-category who were invited directly by the MPNP under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative. These initiatives include:
- Recruitment missions. These overseas employment/immigration fairs involve PNP representatives interviewing foreign skilled workers and subsequently inviting them to apply after they have made a formal Expression of Interest (EOI) to the MPNP.
- Exploratory visits. The MPNP may invite people who have undertaken a pre-approved Exploratory Visit and passed an interview with a program official.
MPNP for Skilled Workers
The MPNP for Skilled Workers was established to help employers in Manitoba find foreign talent to complement their current workforce. The government of Manitoba selects experienced workers who have an Expression of Interest to immigrate to the province and who have the skills needed in the local labour market. These individuals are then nominated to receive a provincial nomination certificate from the MPNP. Once they receive their nomination certificate, the individual may then apply to the federal government for permanent resident status.
These immigration options may also be attractive for individuals who may not be eligible to immigrate to Canada through the Federal Express Entry immigration selection system because the immigration requirements are different. On the other hand, immigration can be a daunting and time-consuming process, hence the need for a certified and Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant(RCIC) to handle it for you.
MPNP Skilled Workers Manitoba
In this sub-category of the MPNP, applications are accepted from qualified foreign workers and international graduates who are currently working in Manitoba and have been offered a permanent job by their employer in Manitoba. However, skilled workers to Manitoba are not subject to a points-based assessment to determine their eligibility.
MPNP Skilled Workers Overseas
This MPNP sub-category is for qualified skilled workers who may be outside Canada but who can demonstrate a strong connection to the province and its labour market. This sub-category uses a point’s based system to assess candidates according to factors such as age, language proficiency, work experience, education and adaptability.
For eligibility in the MPNP, candidates must:
- Have an existing open application with a MPNP file number in the Skilled Worker Overseas stream in the MPNP inventory.
- Have the potential to meet the eligibility criteria of at least one of the following three federal economic immigration programs included in the Express Entry; the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and/or the Canada Federal Skilled Trades Class.
It is important to note that, consideration in through this initiative does not guarantee approval by the MPNP or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Applicants nominated by Manitoba will have to provide evidence that they meet federal criteria when submitting their permanent residence application through Express Entry.
