Record-breaking Express Entry draw
The first Express Entry draw of the year was conducted on Wednesday, 04 January 2017 and it is another record breaker, with the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issuing 2,902 Invitations to Apply (ITA).
In this latest draw, candidates in the Express Entry pool with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 468 or above were issued with an ITA. It is the first time since April 20, 2016, whereby the required minimum CRS score dropped to below 470.
The trend of the draws continues to follow predictions made following the improvements made to certain Express Entry and CRS criteria. This sees the number of ITAs on a rise and the required CRS scores decreasing significantly.
The candidates who received an ITA in the January 4 draw will now be allowed to submit an application for Canadian permanent residence to the IRCC.
Candidates can apply for Canadian permanent residence through the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FTSC), or the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) by first entering the Express Entry pool. Once they successfully enter the pool, they will be assigned a CRS score depending on factors that include civil status information, education, language ability, work experience, and other criteria. The candidates will then be ranked in the pool against other candidates according to their CRS scores and through the regularly conducted draws, the IRCC will select the highest ranking candidates and issue them with an ITA.
