Canada Continues to Invite Thousands to Immigrate to Canada in Latest Express Entry Draws
Thousands had a little something extra to celebrate this Easter. Canada continued to invite skilled foreign workers to immigrate to Canada by applying for their Canadian Visa through the ever-popular Express Entry system.
In this week's draws, the Canadian government invited 3,900 applicants with Express Entry profiles affiliated with the Provincial Nominee Program as well as the Canadian Experience Class, which are 2 of the programs managed by the Express Entry system.
The Express Entry system was originally introduced to help speed up the application process. Usually, applying for a Canadian visa can be quite a long process, taking anywhere from 12 - 18 months depending on your immigration program, your work experience whether or not you have a job offer as well as other factors specific to your application. Express Entry, however, can take as little as 4 - 8 months and is one of the quickest ways to obtain permanent residency in Canada.
Express Entry is a points-based system designed to measure your ability to fill the current labour gap that Canada is facing due to earlier retirement and job creation in emerging markets. Your application will be ranked against others in weekly draws based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those with the highest CRS or PR (permanent residence) scores will receive an Invitation to Apply(ITA) for permanent residence.
In the past two draws, that took place on April 9:
- 606 candidates with CRS scores of 698 and above and applications linked to PNPs; and
- 3,294 Canadian Experience Class candidates with CRS scores of just 464,
received ITAs to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Top Tips to Make the Express Entry System Work for You in 2020
The Express Entry system is one of the most common ways to immigrate to Canada, simply because it is simpler, more convenient, and faster than most immigration programs. It manages three of the Canadian federal immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program;
- Federal Skilled Trade Program; and
- Canadian Experience Class.
In the past two rounds of Express Entry Draws, the Canadian government seems to have chosen 2 main areas to focus on: PNP linked Express Entry streams and Canada Experience Class. So how can you optimize your chances of success in your Canadian visa application? Simple. Make sure that you check as many of the boxes as possible.
1. Provincial Nominee Program Route
There are various PNP linked Express Entry Streams, which can be extremely beneficial in your Canadian visa application. It allows provinces to select your application based on your Express Entry profile, which will contain information such as your age, work experience, educational qualifications, language skills, and ability to adapt to Canadian life. If you have the necessary qualities and experience that a particular province or territory is in need of you may receive a provincial nomination, which is worth 600 extra CRS or PR points. This means that just by having a provincial nomination, you could be a shoo-in for an ITA for permanent residence in Canada.
This route requires some form of higher educational qualification, a valid job offer, and work experience.
It is important to note that requirements vary from province to province and stream to stream.
2. Canadian Experience Class Route
The Canadian Experience Class is perfect for you if you have managed to gain some Canadian work experience (at least one year at skill level 0, A, or B), meet minimum language requirement as well as if you are able to enter Canada.
Top Tips to Take Away
Although work experience isn’t required for all visa options, it can boost your CRS score and give you the edge in your Canadian Visa Application. Easy ways to get Canadian work experience is through temporary work programs such as the International Co-op stream of the IEC (International Experience Canada Program) otherwise known as the Working Holiday Program, which still has some coveted spots up for grabs!
1. Improve your language skills. It’s a sure-fire way to optimize your Canadian visa application.
2. Having a job in Canada will allow you to apply through a PNP linked Express Entry stream and automatically grant your 600 CRS or PR points.
