British Columbia, Canada’s westernmost province, through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has invited a diverse range of workers, entrepreneurs, and international graduates to immigrate to the province. In a set of two separate draws conducted on December 21, 276 candidates were invited with the majority of them already possessing a profile in the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). SIRS is a unique system of operation that allows the BC PNP to rank and select potential newcomers in a range of different sub-categories.
Thirteen of the invited candidates were from the Entrepreneur Immigration Stream in the selection pool.
A few of the individuals who were issued with an ITA will now be able to submit their BC PNP application through any of the enhanced BC PNP sub-categories which are aligned to the Express Entry system. The rest of the remaining candidates will have their applications processed at the federal level outside the Express Entry system.
It is important to understand that an ITA issued under the BC PNP is different from the one issued under the Express Entry system.
Express Entry BC Stream
In this particular stream of the BC PNP that is aligned to the Express Entry system applications submitted can receive priority processing at the federal and provincial levels. As a result, to enter into the Federal Express Entry pool the individuals in this stream must be eligible for any of the federal economic programs available, either the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW), Canadian Express Class (CEC), or the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST).
Under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) individuals who have a provincial nomination certificate from BC in the Express Entry pool will receive 600 points. Subsequently, these individuals will receive an ITA in the following draw.
Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker
This category is for international skilled workers that possess a post-secondary education or training and employment experience in a professional, management, trade, or other skilled occupation.
Express Entry BC – International Graduate
The Express Entry BC – International Graduate category is for individuals who graduated from a Canadian university or college in the past two years. One positive aspect of this category is that it is not restricted to graduates from BC universities and colleges only but also open to graduates from universities and colleges anywhere in Canada.
Skills Immigration – Entry level and Semi-Skilled
Open to candidates who may not be eligible for other Canadian immigration programs, this category also allows no-skilled workers to apply for permanent residence. Candidates for this category are required to work in an eligible occupation within the tourism/hospitality, food processing industries, and long haul trucking.
This category provides a pathway to Canadian permanent residence for individuals who have experience in business and can establish themselves in BC and invest in and operate a commercially viable business that can provide significant benefits to the economy of the province. The candidates who are successful with their applications obtain a work permit and once the business operation regularly fulfills the requirements of the stream, they will be allowed to apply for permanent residence in Canada through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program.
