Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway

Alberta’s Provincial Government is assisting digital businesses in their efforts to attract foreign talent to the industry, which is experiencing a labour shortage. Fast-tracking visas for highly-skilled foreign IT professionals is a priority. This offers foreigners an opportunity to work in Canada if they have an IT degree or related educational background.

The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway was introduced to close the labour gap and attract skilled workers from abroad. There are many IT jobs in Canada that are vacant. This opportunity is one of many under the Express Entry System. This program is for those who want to pursue their dreams of working in the IT industry in Alberta, Canada. The major purpose of this initiative is to select people with a technology skill set from the Express Entry pool.


After you’ve looked through which jobs in Alberta are in demand and have a job offer in a tech-related occupation, your application can be fast-tracked and you’ll receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in as little as six months. The province has ample job opportunities, with 4,754 IT-related jobs available. This is because there are over 3,000 companies in the tech industry found in Alberta.

With record-breaking capital investment and a rising number of firms starting in or expanding to Alberta, the province is becoming a force to be reckoned with in Canada's technological arena. This momentum will be bolstered by the Accelerated Tech Pathway, which will enable Alberta to better recruit the highly skilled global talent that businesses require to thrive, attracting more investment and expanding opportunities for all Albertans.

This effort intends to help Alberta's tech industry thrive by creating a more diversified workforce and a larger talent pool for firms wishing to hire people with specific skills in the field. How to apply through the Accelerated Tech Pathway in 3 Steps

Step 1:

Open an Express Entry profile with the Government of Canada to be considered under this stream.

Step 2:

Submit to be evaluated by the AINP to see if you match the minimum eligibility requirements to apply. If you satisfy the minimum qualifying requirements you will get an email invitation to apply.

Step 3:

If you meet the requirements for the Accelerated Tech Pathway, submit your application which will be placed in a pool of eligible applicants for processing.

Requirements for Accelerated Tech Pathway

  • Complete and submit the Accelerated Tech Pathway form
  • Include information on your Alberta-based job offer or employment
  • Include your Federal Express Entry profile
  • Have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300
  • Have a valid immigration status
  • If you work full-time in Alberta or have a full-time job offer located in Alberta
  • Your occupation is on the Accelerated Tech Pathways list of approved occupations
  • The main occupation in your Express Entry profile is the same occupation as your current Alberta employment or job offer
  • Your salary must meet minimum wage requirements
  • Live in or intend to live and work in Alberta
