British Columbia Tech Pilot

Technology. Years ago, this word was something that everyday people like you and me had nothing to do with, and we left it to the experts to think about. But now, it’s everywhere. It’s a key part of everything we do. From picking up our cell phones and watching TV, to working on our computers. It truly is the future.

Since tech is the way forward, many countries and provinces are seeking to expand their technology industry. British Columbia, Canada is one of these provinces.

What is the B.C. Tech Pilot?

In sum, British Columbia wants to grow its tech industry and we’re inviting foreign workers to help us do this. The aim is to create more jobs in this industry for British Columbians and international workers alike. It’s a win for everyone!

In an effort to make this pilot even more helpful, the former British Columbia Tech Pilot has been extended and renamed the British Columbia PNP Tech Pilot to continue to allow employers to recruit and work with international skilled workers when local workers are not available.

How Does the B.C. PNP Tech Pilot Work?

The B.C. Tech Pilot offers permanent residency in Canada to people in 29 different tech occupations:

The former Pilot offers foreign workers the opportunity to contribute to the province’s success and also to build a great life for themselves, living here in B.C.

In an effort to create a pathway for international workers to work in the B.C. tech industry, since March 2017, the B.C. PNP Tech Pilot has supported over 6,000 tech workers to be nominated for permanent residence in B.C., Canada.

What’s more, you can get to B.C. in a hurry. The B.C. PNP provides a fast-tracked permanent immigration pathway for in-demand foreign workers as well as international students.

B.C. PNP Tech Pilot Features

The B.C. PNP Tech Pilot applications are processed based on the following factors:

  1. Service
  2. Timelessness
  3. Prioritization
  4. Engagement

These features are based on the needs of the industry.


  • A dedicated B.C. PNP Tech Pilot attendant for tech employers provides information suited to your needs as well as
  • Navigation assistance for immigration programs and processes


  • Qualified skilled tech workers are issued weekly invitations to apply for the B.C. PNP Tech
  • This decreases the wait for employers and potential employees


  • B.C. PNP Tech Pilot applicants are treated as a priority during processing in order to meet the tech sector’s fast-paced demands


  • Tech sector employers receive continuous support through engagement activities and by participating in important industry events

Who is Eligible For B.C. PNP Tech Pilot Occupations?

Skilled workers in the 29 in-demand tech occupations qualify to apply for the B.C. PNP Tech Pilot.

If you apply for the pilot with a valid job offer that is included in the list of 29 eligible occupations, the job offer must:

  • Be valid for at least 1 year
  • Have at least 120 days remaining when you apply to the B.C. PNP

How Do You Apply for the B.C. PNP Tech Pilot?


If you wish to apply for this British Columbia PNP Tech Pilot, your employer must register to be considered for the pilot. The registration process is free and includes providing information about your company as the supporting B.C. employer.

Weekly invitations are issued to qualified registrants who have a valid job offer in one of the 29 tech occupations.

In order to receive an invitation to apply, both you and your employer need to make sure that you meet all the program requirements when you register. Although meeting the requirements is necessary to apply, it doesn’t guarantee that you will be invited to apply.

You’re a priority

Applications in the 29 tech occupations are prioritized. Once you submit your complete application, your file will be assigned to a dedicated processing team within one day.

The processing time for B.C. PNP Tech applications is generally no longer than two to three months.
