Record Breaking Canada Express Entry Draw Invites 27,332!

Canada’s Express Entry draw recently made history when 27,332 experienced immigrant workers were invited to move to Canada!

This is the highest number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence that the Express Entry system has issued since its inception in 2015. Previously, Express Entry draws have averaged at issuing 5,000 ITAs. And to top it off, candidates only had to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score of 75! This is also the lowest CRS score that the program has ever seen!

The previous and only Canada Experience Class (CEC) draw in 2021, held on January 21 had a CRS cut-off score of 454, which is 379 higher than the last draw’s cut-off score. The lowest CRS score before this latest draw was 199 in a Federal Skilled Trades Program draw held on May 16, 2017.

CEC candidates need to have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience and have evidently been given tremendous preference in the selection process, as have Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates with Express Entry profiles.

The latest Express Entry draws were held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 (Canadian Experience Class) and February 10, 2021 (Provincial Nominee Class).

Both draws were program-specific and produced the following results:

Express Entry

The Express Entry system is one of Canada’s most efficient immigration systems, managing three federal economic immigration programs.

1. The Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) was designed to make the immigration process easy for highly skilled workers such as doctors, lawyers, architects and chefs, for example. Essentially, skilled immigrants in management, professional as well as technical and trade jobs with some form of post-secondary qualification may be able to apply for permanent residence through the FSWP.

Please also note that there is an additional requirement to score a minimum of 67 out of 100 FSWP points to qualify to be entered into an Express Entry draw as an FSWP applicant.

2. Federal Skilled Trade Program

The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) is the ideal choice for skilled trade workers who have either a full-time job offer or a Canadian provincial/territorial certificate of qualification and want to move to Canada. This means that if you’re an electrician, butcher, or plumber, for example, this may be just what you’ve been looking for in a Canadian immigration program.

3. Canada Experience Class

The Canada Experience Class (CEC) is a great way for immigrants who have Canadian work experience, to gain permanent residency status in Canada. You will need to have worked in Canada for at least 1 year, as well as meet the general requirements of one of the aforementioned Express Entry programs and have an Express Entry profile.

Express Entry-Linked Provincial Nominee Programs

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is the perfect pathway for qualified and experienced workers in high demand provincial/territorial industries to live and work in Canada.

If you qualify for an Express Entry-linked Program you will need to create an Express Entry profile to qualify as well as express interest in your province or territory of choice.

This not only allows for faster processing times but increases your chances of getting an ITA for permanent residence in Canada.

Applying through a regular PNP can take anywhere from 15 to 19 months, which is far longer than the average six-months processing time of the Express Entry system.

Having a Provincial Nomination (PN) which can be obtained through an Express Entry-linked Provincial Nominee Program is worth 600 extra permanent residency points. This could give you the edge you need to surpass other Express Entry applicants.
