British Columbia continues to offer an opportunity to workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs to make the province their permanent home. In its latest draw conducted on 17 February, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued a total of 459 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the Entrepreneur Immigration stream. The rest of the ITAs, totaling 440, were shared among various categories of the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC streams, which are managed under the province’s unique Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
The SIRS is a points-based system that allows the province of British Columbia to rank and select candidates in a range of sub-categories. Some individuals who were issued with an ITA are now in a position to submit their BC PNP provincial nomination application through one of the enhanced BC PNP sub-categories aligned with the federal Express Entry selection system. The remaining candidates will have their applications processed outside the Express Entry at the federal level.
Express Entry BC Stream
This stream of the BC PNP is aligned to the Express Entry, and applications under this stream may receive priority processing at the provincial and federal levels. As a result, individuals in this stream must be eligible for one of the three federal economic programs, the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC).
Express Entry Bc – Skilled Worker
This category is for international skilled workers who have post-secondary education or training and employment experience in a professional, management, trade, technical, or other skilled occupation. This category is aligned to the Express Entry system.
Express Entry Bc – International Graduate
This category is for international students who graduated from a Canadian university or college within the past two years may be eligible to apply under the Express Entry BC – International Graduate.
Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker
This is a base category that is open to workers with a post-secondary school education or training and employment experience in a skilled occupation.
Skills Immigration – International Graduate
This category is for international students who have graduated from a Canadian university or college within two years of applying to the BC PNP. Applicants are not required to have prior work experience, however, they are required to have a valid job offer from a BC employer.
Skills Immigration – International Level And Semi-skilled Category
This is a category that is open to candidates who may not be eligible for other Canadian immigration programs. This category allows for semi-skilled international workers to work in the fields of tourism/hospitality, long-haul trucking or food processing industries.
This stream provides a pathway to Canadian permanent residence for individuals who are skilled and experienced in business and who can establish themselves in BC and invest in and operate a commercially viable business that can provide significant benefit to the province’s economy.
