Canada has held another 2 Express Entry draws within 24 hours of each other, inviting 3,900 skilled workers to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
Canada is currently focussing on inviting skilled foreigners through two Express Entry linked immigration programs:
- Provincial Nominees Programs (PNPs); and
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Although many have been unsure about how the COVID-19 pandemic would affect Canadian immigration, the government has continued to process visa applications. With a target of inviting 340,000 newcomers in 2020 and 1 million by 2022.
529 Express Entry candidates who had expressed interest in a particular province or territory and had received a provincial nomination (PN). Those with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 718 or higher received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Because a PN is worth 600 points, candidates only needed an extra 118 CRS point to qualify.
The second draw held on May 15, 2020, invited 3,371 applicants with previous Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residence status. Those who applied through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and had a CRS score of just 447 or higher received the chance to apply for Canadian permanent residence. This is the lowest CRS score that we’ve seen since January 2019!
