3 Reasons to Get a Working Holiday Visa From Australia
1. Got a Gap Year Plan?
Just completed school or your degree? Why not celebrate with a meaningful gap year in Canada? Gap years have become an essential rite of passage for students before studying or entering the workforce aka adulting. Planning your gap year overseas is a fantastic way to learn flexibility and independence as well as experience other cultures. Not to mention gain meaningful international work experience. All you need is a good backpack, a passport, and a Working Holiday Visa.
2. Backpacking Through Canada
Canada is about 29% larger than Australia. That means if you really want to see the best of the Great Outdoors in Canada, you’ll want to stick around for a few months. Canada is a backpacker's dreamland. It’s diverse with European architecture, vast landscapes, beaches, and lakes. It has something for everyone. Each season presents different activities and events that occur all across the country. Summer is the most popular time for backpackers in most regions except for the Rocky Mountains when winter dominates for skiing and snowboarding.
3. Australians Love Canadians and Vice Versa
It won’t be long before you say, “how are you doing mate, eh?” Australians and Canadians get along like two peas in a pod. Last year, more than 7,000 Australians secured working visas for Canada and 1,885 became permanent residents. Australians love the scenery, the lifestyle, the like-minded and friendly Canadians, the climate, and the ability to travel to so many places in Canada. “Canada is very welcoming and the visa is easy to obtain. So why not try something new,” wrote Courtney Hollmann-Bodkin on the Vancouver Courier Facebook page.
How to Apply for a Canadian Working Holiday Visa from Australia?
A Canadian Working Holiday Visa is exclusively available to a few select countries and Australia is lucky enough to be one of them! What’s more, there is no set quota for the number of visas issued to Australians. However, you must follow a 4-step process to apply for the visa. The first step is obtaining an invitation to apply.
Invitations to apply for the visa are issued to eligible applicants in a draw pool after several rounds from the start to the end of the International Experience Canada season. The invitations issued get less and less as the season nears its end. The IEC season typically opens in December each year and final rounds are issued in November of the following year. A whopping 3, 398 visas have been issued to Aussies this season so far!
The pools for certain countries are really popular, so if you can submit your profile earlier, you might have a better chance of being invited to apply for this amazing visa!
1) What You Need to Apply
The minimum requirements to apply for a Working Holiday Visa from Australia are:
- Have a valid Australian passport. Your Working Holiday Visa can’t be valid longer than your passport;
- Be between the ages of 18-35;
- Have a minimum of CAD$ 2, 500 to help cover your initial expenses;
- Take out health insurance; and
- Have a round-trip ticket or proof that you have the finances to purchase a departure ticket at the end of your visa.
2) Follow These 4 Steps to Apply for Your Working Holiday Visa
1. Submit a profile: First, you must create an IRCC account and submit a profile.
2. Receive an invitation: Second, wait for your invitation. Good luck!
3. Submit an application: If you receive an invitation, you then have 10 days to accept or decline the invitation. If you accept, you have 20 days from that moment to prepare and submit your application.
4. Application success: Prepare for an adventure of a lifetime and memories that’ll stay with you forever!
3) How Does COVID-19 Affect IEC Applicants
The IEC continues to accept submissions of profiles into IEC pools. However, they are not sending out new rounds of invitations or processing applications at this time due to travel restrictions. However, Canada's borders are set to open at the end of July. It’s only a matter of time before Working Holiday Visa applications and Tourist Visa applications resume processing. Don’t let a temporary border closure stop you from getting your profile into the draw pool, or risk finding yourself at the back of a very long queue.
