How Does the Express Entry System Work?
The Express Entry system is not a program but a comprehensive online points driven system that comprises three versatile immigration pathways. Under Express Entry, eligible candidates with the most points will receive an Invitation To Apply (ITA) before they can start applying to the Express Entry programs.
Apply For an NOC C Job Through the Express Entry System
The Express Entry system is one of the most preferred pathways for skilled workers due to its fast immigration process. There are three immigration programs under the Express Entry system:
- Canadian Experience Class
- Federal Skilled Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
Bear in mind that the Invitation ITA is valid for 60 days so you would have to fill out the information on your profile and submit it before the expiry date. Once your profile is submitted, you will be informed about which Express Entry program is suitable for you.
Apply For Your NOC C Job Through the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP)
The PNP is a program designed for immigrants with all skill types, though they should have the right skills, education and suitable work experience that can add value to the Canadian labour market. Provinces within Canada will have different needs, making the standard and processes specific to the province or region.
If you qualify for the Express Entry program, you will most likely have the option of applying for a temporary work permit. Remember, this program is not part of the Express Entry programs but it is a province-specific program which you can apply to through the Express Entry system.
How to Get Started With the PNP through the Express Entry in Two Simple Steps:1. Select a province or territory of your choice. You will be nominated accordingly. After a province/territory has nominated you, your application will be assessed by an immigration officer to check if you meet the program criteria. You may be contacted for additional information.
Top tip: Remember that different provinces have their own set of challenges so we urge candidates to conduct thorough research when it comes to factors such as job opportunities, standard of living and education before choosing a province.
2. You can create an Express Entry profile that shows the provinces/territories that you would like a nomination from them. You will then be contacted through your Express Entry profile, also known as a “notification of interest”, informing you to contact them and apply through their stream. You will receive your nomination electronically through your account if you’re nominated.
Top tip: Candidates must double-check which territories/provinces have the PNP so they can apply under the correct province.
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) Explained
This is an employer driven program as it is designed to facilitate the hiring process by employers. The idea is to ease the selection process so employers can recognize foreign skilled workers with in-demand skills to fill the labour gap that can’t be filled by locals.
If you’re keen to travel in and around one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces, then the AIP is for you. You get to live and work in Canada while exploring New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador. To top it off, foreign workers and international students can gain permanent residence through this program.
Requirements for the AIPOne of the main requirements for this program is to have a job offer from an employer based in Atlantic Canada. If you’re an international student who wants to live and work in Canada, you should be a recent graduate from a designated post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada. If you’re applying to this program as a skilled worker, you should have in-demand skills that a province falls short of.
What Work Experience Does the AIP want Skilled Workers to have?Under the AIP, you would need to have at least 1,560 hours, which amounts to the equivalent of one year if you’re working 30 hours per week. For students, work experience gained while studying is still valid and will be recognized as work experience. Note that volunteering or unpaid internships are not classified as work experience.
Educational Requirements for NOC C Skill LevelIf you have a job offer under the NOC B or C skill level, you'll have a high school diploma from a Canadian school, or an equivalent credential if you schooled outside of Canada.
Individuals who studied outside of Canada and obtained a foreign credential, will require an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), which confirms that your credential is the equivalent, or higher than the educational requirement.
When applying, we’d like to remind you that all work experience must include the main duties and responsibilities outlined in your National Occupational Classification (NOC).
