On January 13, 2022, Alberta’s immigration minister, Tyler Shandro, announced that it would be adding a fast-tracked pathway for tech workers to immigrate to the province under its new Express Entry stream - Accelerated Tech Pathway.

How to Apply Through The Accelerated Tech Pathway
Step 1: Check if you qualify for Express Entry
To apply through this new tech immigration programs you will need to ensure that you qualify for at least one of three Express Entry Programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program;
- Federal Skilled Trade Program; or
- Canadian Experience Class.
Step 2: Ensure that you have a valid job/job offer in Alberta
To apply through the new Accelerated Tech Pathway you will need a valid IT job in Alberta or a job offer from an eligible employer in the Alberta tech industry. Check to see if your employer is on the AINP list of eligible North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes here. You’ll find the 38 eligible occupations listed below:

Step 3: Check if you meet the Accelerated Tech Pathway Criteria
To apply through the new Accelerated Tech Pathway you will need to meet a few program requirements:
- have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300;
- Qualify for at least 1 or more Express Entry programs;
- are working full-time in Alberta or have a full-time job offer in Alberta (minimum 30 hours per week):
- in an occupation on the list of eligible Accelerated Tech Pathway occupations; and
- for an employer that is part of the Alberta tech industry as defined by the AINP list of eligible North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes
- the primary occupation in your EE profile is the same occupation as your current Alberta employment or job offer
- salary must meet minimum wage requirements
- have a valid immigration status
- live in or intend to live and work in Alberta
Step 4: Create your Express Entry profile
To apply through the new Accelerated Tech Pathway you will need a valid Express Entry profile. The entire process can be done online and is free.
Step 5: Complete and submit your form
The Accelerated Tech Pathway form includes information regarding your job offer or employment in Alberta, as well as your federal Express Entry profile, so be sure to have your job offer letter on hand.
Factors that could reduce your chances of getting a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter
- your Express Entry profile expires in 5 months or less;
- your primary occupation in your federal Express Entry profile:
- is on the list of High-wage and low-wage occupations in the province of Alberta set out on the online Government of Canada Refusal to Process a Labour Market Impact Assessment list
- is on the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list
- has a high volume of submissions across all AINP streams.
