All Things Express Entry

What is Express Entry

Express Entry is an online immigration system. It manages three federal economic programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class. When applying for the above-mentioned programs, you’ll need to do so through the Express Entry system.

This program is highly favoured by immigrants for many reasons including the following:

  • If successful, you’re able to move to Canada as a permanent resident which opens you up to several benefits, for you and your family.
  • When applying, you can either complete the application by yourself or you can apply with your partner as this may increase your success rate.
  • In the event you’re unsuccessful, you’re still able to remain in the Express Entry pool for one year. In that time you can improve your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the next draw.
  • Express Entry processing time is one of the quickest times at 6 months.

How does the Express Entry system work?

To get Express Entry to Canada from the UK you'll first need to make sure that you are eligible. Once determined that you’re eligible, you may proceed with the following steps:

Step 1: Create your online profile

Here you will need to provide information about yourself and it’s important to remember to be as truthful as possible, you’ll need to submit documents later supporting your statements.

You’re also required to submit certain documents such as your language test results or work experience. You’ll have only 60 days to complete your profile. You are, however, allowed to exit your profile at any time. If you happen to go over the 60 days you’ll need to start your profile from the beginning.

Once the online profile is submitted, the Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will determine which of the three programs you’re best suited for.

Step 2: Receive your Invitation to Apply (ITA)

Once you’re in the Express Entry pool, you’ll receive a CRS score based on several factors including your work experience, language skills and your age. In order to secure an ITA, you need to receive a score that either meets or exceeds the qualifying score for a particular draw.

Express Entry draws happen as frequently as every two weeks, this means every two weeks you’ll have the opportunity of receiving an ITA and becoming a Canadian permanent resident.

If you aren’t successful the first time around your profile will remain in the pool for one year. During this time you can improve on your CRS score, as mentioned above, by adding to your qualification or work experience.

Step 3: Submit your permanent residency application

If you’re successful and receive your invitation, the best thing to do is to get started with it right away. Again, you’ll only have 60 days to complete your application. The reason you should begin right away is that you’ll need to submit all necessary documents and information and certain documents may take time to access.

The sooner you complete the application, the sooner you can start your new life in Canada.
