With the Express Entry system almost back in full swing, hosting its first all program draw since the pandemic restrictions were put in place, allowing Federal Skilled Worker Program applicants to submit applications, Canada has held another two draws on July 22 and 23, 2020.
These draws invited Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) and Canada Experience Class (CEC) applicants to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
On July 22, 557 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of 687 or higher were selected to apply for permanent residence. This is the lowest score that PNP Express Entry applicants have seen this year!
On July 23, a staggering 3,343 Canada Experience Class (CEC) applicants with Canadian work experience and a CRS score of 445 received their ITAs to join the Canadian community.
So far the two of the three main immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system are up and running and it is only a matter of time before trade workers will be able to apply for a fast track pathway to Canada, and receive their ITA in as little as 6 months!
How Do I Get My Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence?
Step 1: Get Evaluated
The first step to getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through Express Entry is to find out which of the three federal economic programs best suits you.
The Express Entry system manages three programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trade Program
- Canada Experience Class.
If you are a foreign highly skilled worker is an occupation that requires a university degree, diploma or certificate, then the Federal Skilled Worker Program may be for you.
If you are an experienced foreign skilled trade worker working in a profession that needs a highschool diploma, job-specific or on-the-job training, then the Federal Skilled Trade Program may be just what you’re looking for.
The Canada Experience Class, however, may be ideal for you if you are a highly-skilled foreign worker with previous Canadian work experience.
Remember, although this process seems simple, the slightest mistake can mean that your application could be delayed or even rejected. So if you don't feel one hundred percent confident that you can complete your application correctly on your own, there's no shame in asking for help or using the expertise of a seasoned professional, after all, that's why we're here.
What About Provincial Nominee Linked Programs?
Even though Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are not predominantly managed by the Express Entry system, 11 of Canada’s provinces and territories have at least one Express Entry-linked PNP immigration stream. This means that if you express interest in a particular province when you create your Express Entry profile, provincial governments will be able to nominate suitable applicants to apply for Canadian permanent residence. These provincial nominations (PNs) are worth 600 extra CRS points! This means that PNP applicants that were selected in the latest draw only needed an extra 87 points to qualify, which could easily be accumulated just by being the right age. For example, if you are 33 years old or younger and had a PN you would have received an ITA for permanent residence!
Step 2: Create Your Online Profile
Express Entry applications are only submitted online. This means that you will need to create an online profile which will contain information about your age, education/qualifications, language skills, work experience and your ability to settle into life in Canada.
Remember, if you plan to apply for permanent residence through a PNP-linked program, now is the time to express interest in your chosen province or territory.
Step 3: Accept Your Invitation
If your profile is selected from the Express Entry draw pool, you will receive a notification and will have 60 days to accept the invitation. If you miss the deadline your profile will expire and will be removed from the draw pool, after which you will need to create a new profile and start from scratch.
