There are many places to find daily information and news about Canada. You can check online and in local publications to find the best news sources.

Television and Radio

There are public and private networks in both English and French, as well as many other languages in Canada.

Public stations: These are usually funded by the government and therefore have no need for advertisements. Some of these stations are free, depending on where you live and whether you have good reception.

Private stations: Owned by private companies, these stations make their money through advertising. Usually the public will need to pay for some of these channels.

Top Public Television channels

CBC Television:  A national public network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It broadcasts in English, French and in Aboriginal languages in the territories and northern regions of Québec and Labrador.

CBC North: Publicly owned television system run by the CBC operating in the territories, northern Quebec and Labrador, airing the complete CBC Television schedule with a few exemptions to local programming.

Top Private television channels

City: Privately owned television network with stations in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. It is owned by Rogers Communications broadcasting in English.

CTV Television Network: National private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by Bell Media broadcasting in English.

CTV Atlantic: Privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, owned by Bell Media.

CTV Northern Ontario: Privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within Northern Ontario, owned by Bell Media.

Global Television Network: National private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by Shaw Media and broadcasting in English.

Newspapers and magazines

Canada has 2 national newspapers which report on the daily news, current events and international topics; The National Post and The Globe and Mail. There are also many magazine publications that discuss various topics in Canada and abroad.
