1. Immigrate Through Express Entry

There are various immigration options to Canada from the United Arab Emirates, the most popular of which is the Express Entry system. The Express Entry system was designed to help skilled and experienced workers from all across the globe find a fast-tracked way to move to Canada.

There are three programs managed by the Express Entry system, offering Invitations To Apply (ITA) for permanent residency every two weeks:

Express Entry Programs

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program;
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program; and
  • The Canadian Experience Class

The upside of the Express Entry system is that not only does it have an average visa processing time of approximately six to eight months but it also allows you to immigrate to any province or territory in Canada without work experience or a job offer. Having both, however, could give you the edge when being ranked against other applicants as only the highest ranking candidates will receive ITAs for permanent residency.

2. Immigrate to the Province of Your Choice

If Express Entry isn’t for you and you’d prefer to move your family to a specific province and appreciate the comfort of knowing that you have a job offer awaiting you once you arrive in Canada, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) may be just the immigration pathway for you.

You can express your interest in moving to a specific province or territory in one of two ways:

You can apply through an Express Entry-linked PNP program, which will require you to have an Express Entry profile. The other alternative is to apply directly to your province or territory of choice. Previously, applications through a PNP could take as long as 15 to 18 months, and for those who choose to apply through the paper application process, it still does.

Applying through the online process, however, can speed up the process to as little as two to three months, That’s if you choose to apply to British Columbia PNP.

The main difference between Express Entry programs and a specific PNP is that you will only be able to live and work in that particular province or territory. You will also need a valid job offer in that province as well as work experience in your particular field of expertise. Although this is not a prerequisite for all Express Entry programs, it can be beneficial in increasing your Comprehensive Ranking System Score (CRS), on which the ranking of Express Entry candidates is based.

3. Immigrate to Atlantic Canada

At this point you may be familiar with Express Entry and have taken a look at a few Canadian provinces to settle in, but have you considered moving to the Atlantic coast of Canada?

When considering where to move to in Canada, most Emiratis overlook the Atlantic provinces of Canada:

Atlantic Provinces

  • Nova Scotia
  • New Brunswick;
  • Newfoundland & Labrador;
  • Prince Edward Island.

All four provinces have a happy balance between the rustic charm of living in a small town as well as having all the modern amenities of big city life without all the hustle and bustle. This makes these four provinces the perfect place for raising a family in Canada There are also plenty of places of worship and mosques as well as Muslim academies for your children to attend in Atlantic Canada.

4. Move to Canada as a Student and Stay

Although this is not a direct route to immigrate to Canada, Emiratis who choose to study at a Designated Learning institution (DLI) in Canada will have various options to stay and work in Canada, one of which is the Post Graduation Worker Permit Program (PGWPP). The key here is to choose a longer length study program as you will only be able to stay and work in Canada for the same length of time as your Canadian study program was.

For example, if your study program was eight months, you will only be granted a Canadian work visa that is valid for eight months. It is, therefore, better to choose a study program that is at least one to three years long so that you can be eligible for most immigration programs, such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The CEC will allow you to apply for permanent residency as a highly-skilled worker if you have at least one year of Canadian work experience.

There are also various graduate and skilled worker programs under various PNPs that could lead to permanent residency. Whatever you decide, having a Canadian qualification can only stand you in good stead whether you decide to return back home or use studying in Canada as a stepping stone Canadian permanent residency, you will have a world-class education that will only take you to great heights in your future career development.

5. Work in Canada Temporarily

This is another indirect pathway to live in Canada. Many people choose to move to Canada from the UAE on temporary Canadian work visas or permits. This not only speeds up the process of being able to start working in Canada but allows you to obtain enough work experience to apply through various permanent residency programs.

Canada has in-demand occupations in almost every sector, particularly in the following sectors:

In-demand Jobs Sectors in Canada

  • Information Technology
  • Medical Sectors;
  • Mining and Gas;
  • Transportation and Logistics;
  • Education;
  • Manufacturing & Production; and
  • Agriculture.

It is however important to choose wisely, when looking for work in Canada, be sure to find out which provinces or territories your expertise is in demand. This will give you a higher chance of not only finding a job in that province but a greater chance at getting invited to apply for permanent residency once you have enough Canadian work experience.
