The Provincial Nominee Program was designed by the Canadian government with local provinces, to invite immigrants who wish to live, settle and work in a particular province/territories to come to Canada. These PNP streams can be applied directly and have their own set of criteria that needs to be met. Often foreign workers with experience in occupations which are in-demand stand a good chance to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

Moreover, it is important to know that some provinces and territories have streams that are aligned with the Federal Express Entry system. The Express Entry system has the fastest processing times of all Canadian permanent residency programs, usually within 6 months or less. It umbrellas the three federal programs, namely the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class.

This system awards nominees points on their profiles using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). To apply for a nomination with Express Entry, applicants need to create a separate profile through the province, once already in the Express Entry pool. This works either by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the province/territory or by waiting for a Notification of Interest from them based on your skills.

Next, candidates are ranked according to their age, education, work experience, and language abilities, and then the best candidates are drawn from the Express Entry pool and issued with an ITA for permanent residence. The best part is that Express Entry also allows candidates to bring family members as dependents!
