In the first draw of 2017 held on 3rd February, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued 457 eligible candidates with an Invitation to Apply (ITA). These are candidates who had previously created a profile in BC’s unique Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS), a system that allows the province to rank and select potential newcomers across a range of sub-categories.
A few of the candidates who were issued with an ITA will now be in a position to submit their BC PNP provincial nomination application through one of the enhanced BC PNP sub-categories aligned with the Express Entry immigration system. The other remaining candidates may submit their applications to a “base” BC PNP sub-category and will have their applications processed outside the Express Entry system at the federal level.
It is important to understand that an ITA received in the BC PNP is not the same as an ITA issued at the federal Express Entry level.
Express Entry BC Stream
The Express Entry BC Stream is aligned to the Express Entry system, and applications under this stream may receive priority processing at the provincial and federal levels. As a result, individuals in this stream must be eligible for one of the three Federal economic programs in order to be able to enter the federal Express Entry pool. These three federal economic programs include the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST).
Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker
The Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker category is for international skilled workers who have post-secondary education or training in a professional, management, technical, trade or other skilled occupation.
Express Entry BC – International Graduate
International graduates who have graduated from a Canadian university or college within the past two years may be eligible to apply under the Express Entry BC International category. The other important fact about this category is that it is not restricted to graduates from BC universities and colleges only it is also open to graduates from any institution located anywhere Canada.
Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker
This category is open to workers with post-secondary education or training and employment experience in a skilled occupation. This category also requires the eligible candidate to have a valid job offer.
Skills Immigration – International Graduate
This category is for international students who have graduated from a Canadian university or college within two years of applying to the BC PNP. Applicants are not required to have previous work experience, however, they are required to have a valid job offer from a BC employer.
Skills Immigration – Entry level Semi-Skilled
This is a category that is open to candidates who may otherwise not be eligible for other Canadian immigration programs, and it allows certain non-skilled workers to apply for permanent residence. Candidates are required to work in an eligible occupation within the tourism/hospitality, long-haul-trucking, or food processing industries.
