In the latest draw that took place on 8 December 2016, British Columbia through the BC Provincial Nominee Program has issued 500 candidates with an Invitation to Apply. The candidates who received an ITA will now be able to apply for a provincial nomination certificate to the provincial government of BC. The nomination certificate will enable the candidates to apply for permanent residence status through the federal government.
The invited candidates have been divided into five different categories, whereby some will submit their BC PNP provincial nomination applications through any of the enhanced BC PNP sub-categories aligned to the Express Entry system. The other remaining candidates will have their applications processed at the federal level and outside the Express Entry system.
It is important to note that the ITA issued by the BC PNP is not the same as the one issued under the federal Express Entry system.
The individuals interested in applying for immigration to Canada through the various BC PNP categories available are required to enter their information into the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Once successfully registered candidates are able to choose the stream and category which they wish to be considered under, they are then allocated with a points score upon entering the pool. The points scores are based on education, civil status, work experience and other various factors. The highest ranking candidates are then issued with an ITA through the regular draws conducted by the BC government.
Express Entry BC Stream
This stream of the BC PNP is aligned with the Express Entry system, and applications under this stream may receive priority processing at the federal level. Individuals in this stream may also be eligible for one of the three Federal economic programs which are, the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Express Class, or the Federal Skilled Trades Class, in order to enter the Federal Express Entry pool. The individuals in the Express Entry pool who have a provincial nomination certificate from BC will receive 600 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System, which means they will receive an ITA in the following Express Entry draw.
