British Columbia (BC) invites 437 immigrants to settle in the province
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) continues to be the pathway through which a range of international workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs settle in Canada permanently. The latest BC PNP round of invitations, which were issued in draws that took place on March 22, mark the fifth occasion since the beginning of February that the province of British Columbia has issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to the BC PNP.
In total, 437 ITAs were issued on March 22. Of these, 12 were issued to entrepreneur Immigration Stream. The remaining 425 ITAs were divided among various categories of the skills Immigration and Express Entry BC Streams, which are managed under the province’s unique Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
The SIRS is a points-based system that allows BC to ranks and select eligible candidates across a range of sub-categories. Some individuals issued ITAs are now in opposition to submit their BC PNP provincial nomination applications through one of the enhanced BC PNP sub-categories aligned with the federal Express Entry system. The remaining candidates will have their applications processed outside the Express Entry system at the federal level.

Express Entry BC Stream
This stream of the BC PNP is aligned to the Express Entry system, and applications under this stream may receive priority processing at the provincial and federal levels. Consequently, individuals in this stream must be eligible for one of the three Federal economic programs. These include – the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST) in order to enter the federal Express Entry pool.
Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker
The Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker category is for international skilled workers who have post-secondary education or training and employment experience in a professional, management, technical, trade, or other skilled occupation. Candidates must be eligible to enter the federal Express Entry pool. This category is also aligned to the Express Entry system.
Express Entry BC – International Graduate
International graduates who have graduated from a Canadian university or college within the past two years may be eligible to apply under the Express Entry BC – International Graduate category. This category also caters for graduates who have graduated from any University or college located in Canada and is therefore, not restricted to graduates from BC institutions only.
Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker
This base category is open to workers with post-secondary education or training and employment experience in a skilled occupation.
Skills Immigration – International Graduate
This category is for international students who have graduated from a Canadian University or College within two years of applying to the BC PNP. Although applicants do not require prior work experience, they are required to obtain a job offer from a BC employer.
Skills Immigration – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled
This category is open to candidates who may not be eligible for other Canadian immigration programs, as it allows certain non-skilled workers to apply for permanent residence. Candidates must work in an eligible occupation within the tourism/hospitality, long haul trucking, or food processing industries.
